Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee Holds Its Fourth Ordinary Meeting

Chaired by Dr. Malallah Al Hammadi, the Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee held its fourth ordinary meeting, during which it reviewed its previous decisions and recommendations, as well as its forthcoming plans, in a manner that contributes to strengthening the protection of fundamental rights and safeguarding human dignity without discrimination.
The Committee discussed the field visits carried out during the period from 1 January 2024 to 11 December 2025, including the entities covered, the reasons for the visits, and their types—whether announced or unannounced—within the framework of monitoring the conditions of correction and rehabilitation centers, places of detention, health and social facilities, and workers’ accommodation. The discussions also focused on verifying the extent of compliance with relevant national and international standards and following up on the measures taken regarding the recommendations set out in the Institution’s reports.
,p>The Committee emphasized the importance of conducting periodic visits to ensure respect for the rights of inmates, detainees, and individuals dealing with the various entities, and to monitor their living, health, and legal conditions, in a manner that guarantees dignified treatment, healthcare, communication, and adequate housing, consistent with the principles of transparency and continuous oversight. The meeting concluded with a discussion of the Committee’s visit plan for 2026, in addition to reviewing a number of topics listed under “Any Other Business,” with the aim of developing the Committee’s performance and outputs, within the oversight role of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) aimed at promoting and protecting rights and safeguarding human dignity.
